FORMER Mildenhall star Joe Jacobs has signed for Glasgow, ruling him OUT of Mildenhall’s plans for 2013, as he has also signed for Coventry’s new National League side.

The highly rated track starlet has shown true ambition in linking up with the Glasgow Tigers as he looks to launch his Premier League career in Scotland.

Suffolk based Jacobs, is a former runner up in the British U19 championship, and is considered as one of the hottest young talents in British speedway.

The youngster will join Glasgow on a season’s loan from parent club Ipswich, inclusive of an 800-mile weekly round trip for home meetings.

Jacobs, who is currently racing in Australia, has really impressed new Tigers team boss Sean Courtney with his enthusiasm and commitment to the new era at Glasgow:

“Joe is desperate for an opportunity to race in the Premier League, and he is as keen as mustard to join the new set-up here at Glasgow.

He’s been performing well Down Under and that whole experience, and race involvement during the winter, will ensure that the lad is sharp and raring to race when the new season starts.

Joe knows what his job will be in the side, and that he will be encouraged and looked after by the club and our fans as he develops at this level. We all look forward to seeing him progress and flourish in Tigers colours and form a very exciting part of the foundation for our future.”

Speaking from his Australian base in Perth where he has been competing in a series of race events, Jacobs was clearly delighted and focused on lining up for the Tigers:

“I’m really grateful to Glasgow for giving me this opportunity, I can’t wait to ride for you and have already been down the gym training hard!”

Meanwhile Jacobs is relishing the opportunity of lining up at Brandon in 2013.

Coventry co-boss Blayne Scroggins said: “I was at Mildenhall when Joe made his debut at 15, and he had a great first year. He’s gone from strength to strength and I’m looking forward to linking up and working with Joe again. I’m really pleased to get him as our new No.1.

“Joe was always part of Mildenhall’s plans but they gave us first refusal in case he signed for a Sunday Premier League track.

“Once we got the go-ahead from Mildenhall, we made contact with Joe in Australia and the deal was swiftly completed.

“I’d like to thank Chris Louis and the Mildenhall management for allowing the deal to be completed quickly and in a professional manner.”

  • Well done Joe you have been very patient waiting for that premier league start, just a pity it's not for the Witches.IMO no bigger gamble for the club than some of their appointments since we dropped down.As you live locally perhaps they wanted you to ride for National league wages.Good luck young man show'em what they are missing.

  • Congratulations Joe on your 2 signings and I hope you go from strength to strength and become the star British rider we fans all crave for. It will be interesting to see if Chris Louis gets egg on his face as he suggested at the AGM that Joe was not up to scratch for a berth at Ipswich and went for another loaned rider instead in Ellis at reserve!!!
