Agg: Rye House 81 Ipswich 83
IPSWICH Witches retained the Anglian Cup with a narrow 83-81 aggregate win over Rye House, after losing 48-42 at Hoddesdon on Saturday night.
Despite the efforts of Rye’s top two, Josh Auty (14) and Leigh Lanham (17), the Witches were stronger in depth and would have won on the night had guest Justin Sedgmen not enjoyed a horror evening, failing to score from his three rides.
Dakota North top-scored for the Witches with 10 points, but bent a frame in the process after a crash in heat one.
Again both Ipswich reserved, Cameron Heeps and Rohan Tungate impressed.
Witches boss Peter Simmons said: “We won the cup, but most importantly came through the meeting unscathed after Thursday’s awful night.
“I was pleased with Cameron, Dakota and Rohan and Kevin Doolan would have scored more if it hadn’t been for fuel problems after his first ride.”
Rye House ‘Silver Ski’ Rockets: Leigh Lanham 17, Josh Auty 14+1, Luke Bowen 10+2, Ben Morley (G) 4+2, Ritchie Hawkins 2, Jason Garrity 1
Ipswich ‘Sackers’ Witches: Dakota North 10, Rohan Tungate 9+2, Cameron Heeps 8+3, Mat Tresarrieu 8+1, Kevin Doolan 7+1, Justin Sedgmen (G) 0
MEANWHILE Rye House skipper Chris Neath is set to miss much of the 2012 season after crashing out in the very first race at Ipswich on Thursday.
Neath is undergoing an operation on his neck and spinal column, with the possibility that he will require several of the vertebrae to be fused.
Whilst the doctors are highly positive in their outlook, it is likely that Neath will face a lengthy convalescent period.
And the Rockets have further problems to contend with as Jordan Frampton has a badly swollen hand and wrist after an incident in the same meeting – and Jason Bunyan crashed out of the Brandonapolis at Coventry on Friday.
