IPSWICH Witches finish their away Elite League season at Eastbourne tonight and the likelihood is, they will end the season on the road without an away victory.

That appalling statistic alone shows why the Suffolk side are bottom of the Elite League and facing a relegation play/off.

However Eastbourne are the only club the Witches have managed to draw a meeting at this season, when Scott Nicholls and Robert Miskowiak grabbed a last-heat 4-2 at the start of the campaign, to force a 45-all draw.

Since those heady days, it has been all downhill on the road, and the Witches face an Eagles team tonight who are still on Cloud Nine after a stunning performance at Peterborough on Monday, that saw them topple the play-off hopefuls.

Eastbourne won by four points, having not won on the road all campaign and it’s one crumb of comfort Pete Simmons men can take, as they go in search of a first away league victory themselves.

The Witches track the same team that lost at Swindon on Monday, with Kozza Smith, who suffered a host of falls at Blunsdon Stadium, in the reserve position again.

Eastbourne will certainly be looking to continue the feel good factor and also look to make it seven consecutive wins around their Arlington base. Their No.1 Matej Zagar returns to the fold, while the Dryml brothers Lukas and Ales come up against each other.

The Witches management are sure to be planning for next season already and riders’ performances in the final month or so of the campaign will be crucial to their hopes of a Witches team place in 2011.

Eagles: 1. Matej Zagar, 2. Tomasz Jedrzejak, 3. Simon Gustafsson 4. Cameron Woodward (Captain), 5. Joonas Kylmakorpi, 6. Lukas Dryml, 7. Ricky Kling.

Witches: 1. Scott Nicholls, 2. Chris Slabon, 3. Daniel King (Captain), 4. Ales Dryml, 5. Robert Miskowiak, 6. Dawid Stachyra, 7. Kozza Smith.

  • Hope the Witches management are proud of the fact that the Witches never won one match away from home all season, after losing by 8 at the also rubbish Eastbourne. Disgraceful !!!

  • Dead right they will end season without an away win, appalling as you say Mike. But honestly did you expect anything else, when that awful 7 riders were put together on the cheap at the start of the season? But who cares I ask? the Witches management dont!!!
