Two heavy showers caused the Premier League fixture to be postponed.

The first deluge came at 7.30pm, just half an hour ahead of the scheduled start time.

A second downpour followed as referee Chris Gay and team captains Chris Neath and Ricky Wells were walking the circuit to explore remedial options.

The second rainfall gave Gay no choice but to call off the fixture around the time of its scheduled start.

Saturday’s postponement leaves the Rockets chasing a restaging date ahead of the cut-off point for Play-Off and Young Shield qualification of September 20.

Speedway fans enjoyed better luck on August Bank Holiday Monday when the two teams did meet at Rye House as part of a double header that also featured the National League fixture between the Kart Raceway Cobras and the Isle of Wight.

Rye House won both matches.
