BIRMINGHAM have signed Chris Mills as a temporary replacement for Polish rider Tomasz Piszcz.
Mills comes in as Piszcz is to have surgery on a cartilage injury sustained in practice – and Brummies boss Graham Drury is also to bring in short-term cover for squad man Tyson Nelson, whose return from Australia has been delayed by paperwork complications.
Drury said: “Piszcz’s doctor in Poland told him he could probably carry on riding and maybe get through the season but there would also be a risk he could aggravate it by crashing.
“The other option was to have an operation now and get the knee back to full strength and I told him that was the more sensible thing to do. I think Chris has natural ability on the bike and he is capable of beating some good riders.”
